3. The Lovely Bones

I got this movie about 4 days ago in the mail from Netflix and finally got to watch it tonight. First off, I love Alice Sebold, the writer. I read the Lovely Bones several years ago and just loved it. If you haven't read it, its a must read. I thought the movie did a good job of carrying the through-line of the book and captured the essence of both worlds fairly true. Still not convinced that Mark Walhberg was the correct actor to portray her dad. Didn't seem to gel for me. The girl that played Suzie was fantastic! Exactly how I envisioned her as I was reading it. And Mr. Harvey was dead on!
My favorite scene in the book and they did it very well in the movie was when Lindsey, her sister is turning the pages of the murder layout book she found in Mr. Harvey's house and he is downstairs stopped dead in his tracks listening. Then she drops the floor board and it makes a pop sound. He's eyes go wild and the chase is on. Gave me the "Skeevies"!
The book was much better in my opinion, but most books turned into movies rarely hold up. If you haven't read it, a worthwhile movie to see. But after you see it, read the book and get back to me!

  1. I agree with your Mark Walhberg comments. He just didn't seem old enough, mature enough to be her dad. I wished that he and Michael Imperioli had swapped roles. I did think Rachel Weisz and Susan Sarandon did a great job of capturing the mother and grandmother from the book.
